Indonesia, IN FACT, Locates in Two Continents
It’s totally true! According to World Atlas, the Republic of Indonesia is one of the few countries in the world with territories stretching across 2 different continents. In addition to most of the area located in Southeast Asia, the country also has sovereign provinces located in Oceania.
In particular, Indonesia’s two provinces Papua and West Papua locates in the region of Oceania. Which, Papua is the province with the largest area in Indonesia, which is up to 319,036 km2. In contrast, West Papua is the province with the smallest population in the country with more than 115,000 people.
The Area of Indonesia
With an area of more than 1.9 million km2, Indonesia is the country with the largest natural area in Southeast Asia today. Indeed, the archipelagic country has a natural area ranked 8th in Asia and 14th in the world. This is also one of the major countries in the world.
Indonesia shares a border with the Oceania nation Papua New Guinea. This contiguous part of the territory is located on the island of New Guinea. Therefore, traveling to Papua New Guinea from Indonesia by crossing the border on the island of New Guinea is always a good idea.
What’s Also There in the Archipelagic Country?
According to the country’s information portal, Indonesia leads Southeast Asia in terms of population with more than 270 million people. Of which, more than 87% of the population is Muslim. As a result, this archipelagic nation is also the largest Muslim country in the world today.
In addition to the significant area and population in the region, Indonesia is also the leading country in Southeast Asia in the number of volcanoes, islands, and languages. Yes, it has about 150 volcanoes and more than 17,000 islands. Also, the country has more than 700 native languages resulting from a lot of races and tribes living on the island.
