A Comparison of Convenient Ways to Go to Phu Quoc Island
Phu Quoc is one of the most beautiful islands in Vietnam, and how to conveniently go to Phu Quoc island could be a question asked by many wanderers when coming to the country. There are many different ways, including some popular ones such as taking buses and ships or taking flights to Phu Quoc. Just in time I visited the island, let me show you a carrier comparison for your decision-making anytime you intend to travel to the island.
Flights to Phu Quoc Island

It’s ideal to take flights to Phu Quoc, one of the top places to travel in Vietnam, if you are staying in North or Middle Vietnam. The island has an international airport with different routes from places within Vietnam and even some countries. Flights may vary depending on seasons, but the average prices are around $40 – $60 for one way if you check with the cheapest deals.
There is another option for cheaper flights. Visitors coming from North or Middle Vietnam can take flights to Ho Chi Minh City, then find flights from a cheap airline such as Vietjet Air, or take buses and ships, which cost around $17, to Phu Quoc.
Buses and Ships to Phu Quoc Island

Visitors or people who stay in South Vietnam have plenty of choices to go to Phu Quoc. They can either ride to Rach Gia, or Ha Tien then get the ships or take cheap flights to Phu Quoc. Mostly, people who are staying in the Mekong Delta take the bus to Rach Gia or Ha Tien and then go to Phu Quoc Island by ship.
There is also a cheap option for wanderers who want to go to the island, of course, it consumes more time. From Ho Chi Minh City, visitors can take buses to Rach Gia or Kien Giang (suggested Futa Bus Lines) and then get ships to Phu Quoc Island (suggested Superdong, or Phu Quoc Express). The time length of each route is different based on destinations.

You can see that the total time for the Rach Gia route may be slightly shorter than the Ha Tien route if we go continuously. However, you have to wait till the departure time of ships at Rach Gia. So it depends on whether you want to spend more time on the sea or not.

Table of Comparison of The Transports
Route | Total Time | Cost | |
Bus | Rach Gia Route (from HCMC) | 6 hrs | VND 260,000 |
Ha Tien Route (from HCMC) | 9 hrs | VND 312,000
Ship | from Rach Gia | 2h30′ | VND 340,000 |
from Ha Tien | 1h10′ | VND 250,000
Flight | from Hanoi | 2h10′ | VND ~3.2m |
from Ho Chi Minh City | 1hr | VND ~1.2m
from Da Nang | 1h15′ | VND ~2.2m |
Note:
- You have to take the bus and then ship together to go to the island.
- Taking a bus and shipping is obviously cheaper but takes a longer time.
- A prescient advantage of taking the bus then ship is the sightseeing of Vietnam’s Mekong Delta and the sea to Phu Quoc.
- Prices for flights to Phu Quoc Island are varied depending on the seasons. And the prices shown in the table are for one-way tickets.
- Check your items with the packing list carefully. Make sure you enjoy the best trip!
And finally, welcome to Phu Quoc!
