Banff Park Lodge Review, A Family-Friendly Stay in the Heart of Banff
Planning a trip to Banff and wondering where to stay? In this Banff Park Lodge review, I’m sharing our real family experience staying right in the heart of Banff during our early October 2025 Alberta trip.
Traveling with young kids always makes accommodation a top priority, especially on a scenic Canada travel adventure like this. We were looking for something comfortable, spacious, and centrally located, without paying luxury hotel prices. After comparing several options for our Banff travel itinerary, we decided on Banff Park Lodge, and it turned out to be a great fit for our family.
From its cozy mountain lodge atmosphere to its spacious rooms and friendly service, this hotel gave us a relaxing base to explore Banff and the surrounding Rockies. In this review, I’ll walk you through everything you need to know, including the rooms, amenities, location, and whether it’s worth it for your next Alberta travel experience.
About Banff Park Lodge
Located right in the heart of Banff town, Banff Park Lodge is a well-known hotel that offers a balance between comfort, convenience, and value. It’s not positioned as a luxury resort, but it delivers everything you need for a relaxing stay during your Banff travel or Alberta trip.
The hotel has a cozy, mountain-lodge feel with warm interiors, wood accents, and spacious common areas. It’s also a popular choice for families, tour groups, and even conferences, thanks to its large size and range of facilities.
If you’re planning your Calgary travel itinerary and looking for a reliable place to stay in Banff without overspending, this is definitely a solid option to consider.

Location: One of the Best Places to Stay in Banff
One of the biggest advantages of staying at Banff Park Lodge is its location.
The hotel sits just a short walk from Banff Avenue, the main street filled with restaurants, cafes, shops, and tour operators. This made it incredibly convenient for us, especially when traveling with kids, since we didn’t have to rely on the car all the time.
You’re also close to:
- The Bow River walking paths
- Downtown Banff attractions
- Shuttle stops at popular spots like Lake Louise and Moraine Lake
For anyone planning a Banff travel itinerary or a broader Alberta travel adventure, this location makes it easy to explore without stress. It’s especially ideal if it’s your first time visiting Banff.
Our Room, Standard Queen Room with Two Queen Beds
For our stay, we booked three Standard Queen Rooms with Two Queen Beds, and this setup worked really well for our family.
The first thing we noticed was the room size. Compared to many hotels, especially in popular tourist destinations, the rooms felt spacious and practical, with enough room for luggage, kids, and all the little things that come with family travel.
The two queen beds were comfortable, and the layout made it easy for everyone to settle in without feeling cramped. Whether we were unpacking, getting ready, or just relaxing after a long day exploring Banff, the room felt functional and comfortable.

If you’re traveling with kids or as a group, this type of room is a great choice and one of the reasons why I’d consider this a family-friendly hotel in Banff.
Bathroom & In-Room Amenities
The bathroom was clean, simple, and functional, exactly what you need after a long day outdoors.
It included:
- A spacious sink and countertop area
- Fresh towels and basic toiletries
- A clean shower and toilet setup
While it’s not luxurious, everything was well-maintained and practical.

In terms of in-room amenities, we also had:
- A kettle and tea/coffee setup
- A mini fridge area
- Space for organizing belongings
These small details make a difference, especially during a longer Canada travel trip when you want convenience in your room.
Other Room Types at Banff Park Lodge
In addition to the room we stayed in, Banff Park Lodge offers several other room types designed for different travel styles, whether you’re visiting as a couple, a family, or on a special Banff travel getaway.
Some of the available options include:
- Superior King Room with Day Bed, a great choice for small families or couples who want a bit of extra space
- Deluxe King Room with Jacuzzi, ideal if you’re looking for a more relaxing or romantic stay after a day exploring Banff
- Executive King Suite, offering a more spacious layout with separate living areas for added comfort
- Lodge Suite, perfect for travelers who want a larger, more premium accommodation experience
- Superior Corner King Room, which typically provides more natural light and a slightly more open feel
We didn’t have the chance to experience these room types ourselves, but they’re worth considering depending on your needs, especially if you’re planning a longer stay or want to upgrade your experience during your Alberta trip or Canada travel itinerary.

If you’re deciding where to stay in Banff, choosing the right room type can make a big difference, especially when traveling with family or looking for extra comfort. You should check availability and room options for your travel dates before planning the rest of your Alberta trip.
Hotel Facilities & Amenities
What We Experienced
The hotel lobby and common areas had a warm and welcoming atmosphere, with a classic mountain lodge design that fits perfectly with Banff’s surroundings.
One of the highlights of our stay was the staff, especially the receptionist who checked us in. He was incredibly friendly, patient, and helpful, which made a great first impression after a long day of traveling.

The hotel also has:
- Spacious seating areas
- Cozy corners to relax
- A family-friendly environment overall
Traveling with kids, these little things matter more than you might expect.
What We Didn’t Have Time to Try
Although we didn’t get to experience everything, Banff Park Lodge offers several additional amenities that are worth mentioning:
- Indoor swimming pool
- Hot tub and sauna
- Fitness center
For dining, the hotel has:
- La Terrazza Restaurant, which serves breakfast
- Crave Mountain Grill is a more upscale dining option for lunch or dinner

We didn’t have time to try these during our stay, as we chose to explore local restaurants instead, but having these options on-site can be very convenient, especially for families or during colder months.
Parking at Banff Park Lodge
If you’re doing a road trip as part of your Alberta trip, parking is an important factor.
The hotel offers on-site parking at: $14 + 5% GST per car per night.
We traveled with two cars, and the process was straightforward and convenient. While it’s not free, this is fairly standard for hotels in Banff. Having parking available on-site definitely made our stay easier, especially when arriving and unloading with kids.
Is Banff Park Lodge Good for Families?
Based on our experience, yes, absolutely.
There are a few reasons why Banff Park Lodge works really well for families:
- Spacious rooms with two queen beds
- A safe and central location
- Easy walking access to shops and restaurants
- A relaxed and welcoming environment
- Friendly and helpful staff
Traveling with young kids can be unpredictable, so staying somewhere that feels comfortable and stress-free makes a huge difference. This hotel provided exactly that for us.
If you’re planning a family-friendly Banff travel itinerary, this is a great option to keep in mind.

Price & Value for Money
Prices at Banff Park Lodge vary depending on the season, as with most hotels in Banff.
During peak travel times, especially summer and early fall, rates can be higher. However, compared to many other hotels in the area, this property offers good value for money, considering:
- Its central location
- Room size
- Family-friendly setup
Banff is not a cheap destination, so finding a hotel that balances comfort and cost is important. For us, Banff Park Lodge hit that balance well during our Canada travel trip. If you’re planning your Banff travel itinerary, it’s worth checking the latest prices for Banff Park Lodge, especially during peak seasons when availability fills up quickly.
Pros and Cons
Pros
- Excellent location in Banff
- Spacious and practical rooms
- Family-friendly atmosphere
- Friendly and helpful staff
- Good overall value
Cons
- Parking is not free
- More mid-range comfort, not a luxury hotel like Fairmont Banff Springs
Check Availability for Banff Park Lodge
If you’re planning your Banff travel, where you stay can truly shape your experience, especially when traveling with family.
Banff Park Lodge gave us the space, comfort, and location we needed to slow down, relax, and fully enjoy our Alberta trip together. It felt easy, convenient, and just right after long days exploring the Rockies.
Banff is a popular destination year-round, so it’s always a good idea to check availability early and secure a stay that works best for your travel dates.

In Conclusion: Should You Stay at Banff Park Lodge?
If you’re planning a Banff travel experience and searching for a comfortable, well-located, and family-friendly hotel, Banff Park Lodge is definitely worth considering.
What stood out most to us was the combination of spacious rooms, a welcoming atmosphere, and a central location that made exploring Banff incredibly easy. Traveling with kids can be challenging, but having a hotel that feels relaxed, convenient, and genuinely friendly makes a big difference. The warm and helpful staff, especially the receptionist who greeted us, added a personal touch that we truly appreciated.
While it may not be a luxury resort, Banff Park Lodge offers excellent value for families and travelers who want comfort and convenience during their Alberta trip. Whether you’re visiting for a weekend getaway or part of a longer Canada travel itinerary, it’s a reliable and practical choice.

Great review! Banff has been on our family bucket list for a long time, and your experience at Banff Park Lodge makes it sound like such a welcoming, stress-free option. It’s lovely to find a place that feels like a ‘home base’ rather than just a hotel room. Thanks for the inspiration!

Banff is on my list of parks to visit one day! We are working through all of the US National Parks first, then I will plan a trip there. We’ve stayed at lodges similar to this before, and they are usually perfect for my family.

Baniff Park Lodge does sound like it is exceptionally well located with it being so close to shops and restaurants aswell as the Bow River walking paths. I do like to walk as much as possible so having places of interest nearby that can be reached easily by foot is a draw for me. The room size is great and I do like the layout of the bathroom. It’s perfect for my family and I for a weekend away.
