The Best 5 Destinations for Safe Travel in Vietnam During Covid-19
‘Safe travel’ is a phrase that travel enthusiasts care about when planning a trip when the epidemic has not ended. Instead of just “packing your backpack and going” like many years ago, now the habits of traveling believers have changed somewhat when the safety factor is always a priority. While Vietnam is preparing to welcome international travelers at the end of Mar, visitors should carefully learn about the epidemic prevention regulations in the locality they plan to visit. Especially, they should choose safe destinations to visit during the journey, giving priority to green areas. Below are suggested destinations that are already open to tourists for your reference to safe travel in Vietnam.
Ha Long Bay – Quang Ninh Province
Ha Long Bay, Quang Ninh is a destination with a developed tourism industry thanks to the advantage of heritage. You can enjoy many experiences such as swimming, water park, yacht, etc. From the beginning of Nov 2021, Quang Ninh province firstly allows welcoming local tourists from outside the province. Yet, they strictly control the epidemic prevention and business establishments to tourists.
Currently, this locality focuses on guests traveling in groups and closed tours. The factor of ensuring safety against epidemics is the province’s top priority. At the moment, visitors traveling to Quang Ninh need to make a medical declaration, have 2 doses of the Covid-19 vaccine, or have recovered from being infected within 6 months.
How to Go to Ha Long Bay
You can take a flight to Van Don International Airport. Then, it takes you about an hour to go from Van Don to Ha Long Bay by taxi.
Otherwise, tourists can travel by bus from Hanoi to Ha Long Bay. The current fare fluctuates around 300,000 VND/person each way. If you go in a large group, you can rent a private car and drive yourself.
What to Do in Ha Long Bay
At the beginning of the year, the weather in Ha Long Bay is quite cold. One of the popular types of tourism on this occasion is resorting on a cruise. Indeed, resting on a cruise ensures safety and privacy during the epidemic as you less interact with other people. Currently, the prices offered by Ha Long cruise since reopening are low, about 3-3.2 million VND/person/night excluding shuttle bus and other services. Visitors can access a 5-star floating resort at an affordable price.
Nha Trang – Khanh Hoa Province
From October, Khanh Hoa province welcomed tourists to this locality to relax. Particularly, Khanh Hoa has specific regulations for tourists from outside the province to ensure it is a safe travel destination in Vietnam.
Visitors must meet the following conditions, including receiving full doses of the Covid-19 vaccine or having recovered from infection within 6 months.
What to Do in Nha Trang
Coming to the beach city, visitors can participate in activities such as diving to see corals, walking on the seabed, surfing, visiting Ponagar Tower ruins, Hon Chong scenic spots, taking a cable car to Hon Tre island,…

Unsurprisingly, Dalat city is a top travel destination chosen by many tourists to visit because of its cool climate and fresh air.
Many people will tell you to make a medical declaration before entering the territory of Lam Dong province and the ward medical station at the place of residence. However, it’s not compulsory. At the moment, Dalat is gradually opening up tourism activities and entertainment services.
How to Go to Dalat
There are 2 options for transportation to Da Lat from any place: bus and plane. You can find a sleeper bus from your destination to go to Dalat. It only costs you a night to get to the spot. Otherwise, you can take a flight to Lien Khuong airport from any airport within Vietnam. Then catch a taxi or a bus to go to Dalat city from the airport, which takes about 35′.
Ho Chi Minh City
Are you surprised to see the most hustle and bustle city of Vietnam on this list? Instead, Ho Chi Minh City will bring to you different experiences in a very particular way. Moreover, the city is now a quite safe travel spot in Vietnam after Covid-19 severely spread out. The place is steadily reducing its covid-related regulations to attract international travelers.
What to Do in Ho Chi Minh City
Besides many activities that you can do in Ho Chi Minh City, a staycation is a suitable choice for travelers to this city. In Ho Chi Minh City, you can easily find a place to stay that suits your resort needs. An ideal staycation requires the right accommodation. In the center of Ho Chi Minh City, there are many types for you to choose from such as apartments, hotels, homestays, and villas.
If you go in a large group of 5-10 people, you can book a villa in the suburbs. Areas, where many villas are concentrated, are usually in Thu Duc City. On the other hand, those who like “virtual living” can choose a high-class hotel in the city center with luxurious photo angles. Or, visitors who focus on privacy and convenience should choose an apartment or homestay accommodation.
You should book early to have a variety of options. To save time, you can book through online apps such as Booking.com, Agoda, or TripAdvisor. Compared to contacting the property directly, booking through the apps has more incentives. In addition, you can also take advantage of filters on price, numbers of guests, location,… to easily choose the right resort. On top of that, the platforms usually offer incentives to book with discounts.
Phu Quoc Island – Kien Giang Province
From Oct to Apr is the most ideal time for tourists to visit Phu Quoc Island. At this period of time, the west coast sea is calm. Additionally, most of the beautiful beaches and tourist services here are concentrated from the south to the north of the island along the west coast on a very easy-to-navigate road.
You can choose to stay at the coastal resorts on Truong beach or in Duong Dong town. They are on the west side of the island. Particularly, Duong Dong town area has many hotels, ranging from cheap to high-class. In addition, the Tran Hung Dao road from Duong Dong to An Thoi has many options of accommodation for you to consider too.
Currently, visitors to Kien Giang province need to ensure the following conditions:
- For travelers using road vehicles: Requires full doses of Covid-19 vaccine or has been cured from Covid-19 within 6 months.

- Foreigners living and working in Vietnam who come to visit Kien Giang must meet the same conditions as domestic tourists.
How to Go to Phu Quoc Island
To go to the island, you can choose 2 ways to travel, either by air or by a combination of road and waterway. Don’t worry, I have made a comparison of convenient ways to go to Phu Quoc for you to easily plan your trip. Aviation is an option if travelers want to save time. The flight from Hanoi to Phu Quoc takes about 2 hours, round-trip tickets cost about 4.2 million VND based on the time in the year. Besides, Ho Chi Minh City – Phu Quoc route with more than 1-hour flight, ticket price from 2.2 million VND/round trip.
Safe Travel in Vietnam During the Covid-19 Pandemic
- Check conditions for visitors: In many places, the quarantine and movement regulations for people coming from other localities are still strict. You need to know the local regulations on disease control and prevention in order to have an appropriate plan. In addition, you need to bring enough test papers, certificates of Covid-19 vaccination,… as required, so that the trip is not interrupted by procedures.
- Stay safe: To be proactive in the prevention of Covid-19 and ensure the safety of yourself and your family, choosing safe places to stay and destinations throughout the journey, prioritizing green areas.
- Use public transport safely: Airplanes, passenger cars, taxis are crowded places with a high risk of infection through interaction. To actively prevent the epidemic, you should wear a mask throughout the journey, avoid contact with strangers, limit handling/grasping surfaces or objects on the vehicle, and always pay attention to washing hands and disinfecting.
- Using online booking and ticketing applications: To make the trip convenient, fast and limit contact, you should use online applications to ensure efficiency. The advantage of using platforms is that you can actively arrange time, choose accommodation and air tickets that suit your needs, easily compare prices, and pick services for your own trip.
