If you ask me about the power of words and images, I would say it can motivate me anytime I’m negative. Indeed, at times that my feet are prevented from hiking or wandering at places, travel quotes all inspire me to overcome the hard moments. Sometimes, it reminds me of beautiful days when I traveled to destinations, exploring the cities, or enjoying the delicious foods. Some of the quotes even teach or highlight the truth of adventures.

Here in this post, I collect all of my favorite travel quotes and would love to share it with you so we are all inspired for living a more experienced and adventurous life.

Top 10 Travel Quotes

1. “The world is a book and those who do not travel read only one page.” – St. Augustine

And the first page doesn’t even bring you out of your safe zone to the outer world. Indeed, the first page of a book is usually just a table of content of some general introduction. It doesn’t carry enough detail to give your mind a fly to the space of knowledge or a hint to what the book really is.

Three years after the first day I put my first step into Canada, I could still remember the first day I saw snow and really knew how it was. Honestly, it was like the kid who was first given the sweetest candy in the world. And that’s what a boy born and lived in a tropical country can describe to you.

Travel Quotes by Anthony Bourdain

Honestly, I knew more about Anthony Bourdain since he has come to my country eating Bún Chả Hà Nội with the ex-President of the USA, Mr. Barrack Obama. At that time, I was just curious about a man with honor to have dinner with the president of a big country. Then, the more I research about him, the more interest and admire I feel about the talented man. I always wish to do things like him, traveling around the world, exploring cultures on the planet, tasting different cuisines, then documenting things to share with everyone. It was such an extremely bad and a huge loss that he passed away, but his heritage and quotes always inspire people.

62. “Travel changes you. As you move through this life and this world you change things slightly, you leave marks behind, however small. And in return, life – and travel – leaves marks on you.”

63. “If you’re twenty-two, physically fit, hungry to learn and be better, I urge you to travel – as far and as widely as possible. Sleep on floors if you have to. Find out how other people live and eat and cook. Learn from them – wherever you go.”

64. “If I’m an advocate for anything, it’s to move. As far as you can, as much as you can. Across the ocean, or simply across the river. The extent to which you can walk in someone else’s shoes or at least eat their food, it’s a plus for everybody. Open your mind, get up off the couch, move.”

65. “The journey is part of the experience – an expression of the seriousness of one’s intent. One doesn’t take the A train to Mecca.”

68. “It’s an irritating reality that many places and events defy description. Angkor Wat and Machu Picchu, for instance, seem to demand silence, like a love affair you can never talk about. In the end, you’re just happy you were there – with your eyes open – and lived to see it.”

69. “Nothing unexpected or wonderful is likely to happen if you have an itinerary in Paris filled with the Louvre and the Eiffel Tower.”

It leaves marks on your memory, on your consciousness, on your heart, and on your body. You take something with you. Hopefully, you leave something good behind.”

When traveling to Vietnam, surely you may find a lot of temples and pagodas across the country. It can be seen that Buddhism has the strongest impact, as well as its occupation on the locals’ belief. 89. “It is a subject that is bound to stir the pulses of any man one talks seriously to about, for in this age of inventive wonders all men have come to believe that in some genius’ brain sleeps the solution of the grand problem of aerial navigation – and along with that belief is the hope that that genius will reveal his miracle before they die, and likewise a dread that he will poke off somewhere and die himself before he finds out that he has such a wonder lying dormant in his brain.”

  2. I love these travel quotes. I agree on this: “Life is short and the world is wide, the sooner you start exploring it, the better.” – Simon Raven. That’s why I travel once or twice a year (or more) in a different country.

    • Yes. It was just a little bit late for me to really travel.
Wish I could know it sooner to start exploring every thing.

  3. These are great quotes. A couple of my favorites are the Chinese proverb about don’t listen to what people say but go see and the one about only travel with people you love. Experience has taught me that you cannot enjoy travel with people that you don’t love. On the flip side, the most amazing trips were with people that I resonated well with. What a difference!

    • Yes, all the quotes are great especially when it brings different thoughts to the readers.
